“The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) hereby inform the general public that ALPHA MUSTAPHA KABIA (photo above) is a wanted person and is on the run. Any person who gives information to the police in connection to the whereabouts of ALPHA MUSTAPHA KABIA leading to his arrest will be rewarded a sum of le 50 Million (old leones),” according to a press release from the Sierra Leone Police.
Alpha Mustapha Kabia of 29 Campbell Street, Makeni and a former employee of Amzas Radio FM 96.9 in Makeni was caught red-handed by his wife while he was engaged in homosexual activity with someone else. According to Kabia’s wife, Fatmata Fornah, on August 2022, she decided to visit the work place of her husband. According to her, for about two months prior August, she observed that Alpha was returning home late at night.
On the night of the aforementioned date, she decided to visit the work place of Alpha and to her dismay caught her husband and his co-worker engaging in illicit sexual activity at the Amzas FM. Upon reporting the matter to her father, an Islamic leader, he reported the matter to the police because homosexual is considered a criminal offence against Islam and it speaks against the morals of the society and Sierra Leone in general.
Alpha, since then has been on the run and has been declared wanted by the SLP. On a more serious note, his wife’s parents have uttered words which threatened the life of Alpha Mustapha Kabia while at the same time the police have issued a warrant of arrest against him.
In nexus to his crime, the Sexual Offences Act of 2012 as amended 2019 brought in stricter and tougher penalties for sexual crimes or assault. According to that act, rape or sexual offences have been increased to a minimum of 15 years or life imprisonment if it involves a child. Looking at the crime commited by Alpha Mustapha Kabia, the said Act can be used to punish him if seen by the Sierra Leone Police.
