The United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bryan D. Hunt, has resigned from his post, the U.S. Embassy in Freetown announced Tuesday.
Ambassador Hunt submitted his resignation to the White House, citing personal reasons linked to family medical considerations. He will not be returning to Sierra Leone.
The Embassy said Chargé d’Affaires Jared Yancey will continue to lead operations until a new ambassador is appointed.
Hunt, who served for two years in Sierra Leone, was credited with strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in health, security, and economic cooperation.
In a farewell message to Embassy staff, Hunt expressed admiration for their work, saying he had “loved every moment” of his time in the country.
The U.S. government reaffirmed its commitment to Sierra Leone, pledging to build on the foundation laid during Hunt’s tenure.
