The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Eastern Region Command has commenced the installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras across Kenema City as part of efforts to strengthen public safety and crime prevention.
The exercise, led by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) East, Moses Francis Tower, follows the recent distribution of 15 CCTV units by Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu. The devices are being mounted at major road intersections, public facilities, and other high-risk areas identified through intelligence reports.
AIG Tower, who supervised the installation process, described the move as a major breakthrough for policing in the region. “This marks a new era of proactive policing. With these cameras, we will improve monitoring, deter criminal activity, and speed up investigations,” he said.
The CCTV network is expected to aid ongoing police operations against street crime, drug trafficking, and unauthorized gatherings in Kenema.
Police authorities have urged residents to embrace the project and to report any attempts to tamper with or vandalize the cameras, emphasizing that the technology is vital to making the city safer.
