The National Investment Board (NIB), in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), has concluded a week-long capacity-building training for community groups in Port Loko District. The training forms part of the Sustainable Feeder Roads Maintenance Mechanism under the Public-Private-Community Partnership (PPCP) model, a key component of the Opportunity Salone program.
Similar sessions have been successfully conducted in other targeted districts including Bo, Kenema, and Bombali.
The training focused on critical areas such as community mobilization, contract management, and participatory monitoring, aiming to empower local communities to sustainably manage feeder roads. This approach not only promotes ownership but ensures long-term infrastructure maintenance through inclusive, locally-driven models.
Speaking at the close of the training, representatives from NIB and ILO emphasized the importance of community involvement in national development and infrastructure management. Participants expressed commitment to apply the knowledge gained in maintaining road assets that connect rural communities to markets and essential services.
The Opportunity Salone program continues to serve as a flagship initiative aimed at promoting economic diversification and job creation, with infrastructure development and local empowerment at its core.
