The Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu, has officially endorsed the Advance Team of the Sierra Leone Police Formed Police Unit 6 (FPU-6) ahead of their deployment to Somalia for a peacekeeping mission under the African Union and United Nations Support Office in Somalia (AU/UNSOS) framework.
The send-off ceremony was held at the Senior Officers’ Mess in Kingtom, following the team’s successful completion of a rigorous pre-deployment training program. The training covered weapons handling, tactical operations, and international peacekeeping protocols designed to meet global operational standards.
In his address, IGP Sellu praised the officers for their commitment and professionalism during the training phase. He described their preparation as “vigorous and intensive” and reminded them of the significant responsibility they carry in representing the Sierra Leone Police, their families, and the country at large.
“I trust you,” Sellu told the contingent. “I wish you all the best as you embark on this noble assignment.”
The IGP also commended the leadership of Superintendent Ibrahim M.F. Samura, the Contingent Commander, highlighting his record of discipline and competence.
Superintendent Samura, responding on behalf of the team, expressed gratitude to the SLP’s Executive Management Board and the Government of Sierra Leone for the opportunity to serve. He pledged that the unit would uphold the values and reputation of the SLP while proudly representing Sierra Leone in Somalia.
The event was attended by senior police officials, including Assistant Commissioner of Police John Fayia Tumbay, Head of Peacekeeping Operations. The ceremony concluded with a group photograph of the officers before their departure.
