The Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Honourable Julius Daniel Mattai, has arrived in St. Petersburg at the helm of a high-level delegation to participate in the 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), which officially opens today, June 18, and runs through June 21, 2025.
The delegation includes the Director General of the National Minerals Agency (NMA), Mr. Hadji Dabo, as well as senior directors from the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources and the NMA. The team was received upon arrival by Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Russia, His Excellency Mohamed Yongawo.
The SPIEF is one of the most prominent international economic and investment forums, bringing together global leaders, policy makers, and investors. Minister Mattai is scheduled to deliver key remarks in several sessions and participate in strategic roundtable discussions aimed at attracting foreign direct investment into Sierra Leone’s mining sector.
In addition to formal engagements, the minister is also set to hold sideline meetings with major stakeholders in the global mining industry. These meetings are expected to focus on potential partnerships, sustainable mining practices, and opportunities to boost mineral exports from Sierra Leone.
The delegation’s presence at SPIEF underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to positioning its mineral resources sector as a competitive and transparent investment destination.
