Journalist Melvin Tejan Mansaray formally apologized to the Speaker and Members of Parliament on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, during a hearing before the Privileges and Ethics Committee at the Parliament Building.
Mansaray was summoned for Contempt of Parliament over remarks he made on Radio Democracy 98.1 FM, which lawmakers deemed damaging to the legislature’s image.
In a written statement, Mansaray expressed regret for his comments, acknowledging they had caused offense. “On the consideration that the Honourable Speaker and some Members of Parliament have felt aggrieved, I hereby profusely tender my unreserved apology and undertake to publicly withdraw my statement,” he stated.
The Committee, satisfied with his apology and retraction, opted not to pursue further action, adjourning the hearing indefinitely.
Mansaray had been called before the Committee after his remarks allegedly brought Parliament into disrepute. The incident underscores the institution’s ongoing efforts to safeguard its integrity.
